In response to the devastation caused by
Hurricane Helene in Florida, Discovery Workshop, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Clearwater
and a DBA of Helping Understanding Others (EIN: 47-3099249), is preparing to deploy as a key first responder. Our mission to empower communities through wellness, education, and technology has been adapted to meet the immediate needs of the disaster-stricken areas.
Wellness : Discovery Workshop is preparing to offer
basic CPR care and training for local residents. We will conduct
Red Cross Basic CPR training sessions for individuals who wish to assist in the recovery effort, empowering them with life-saving skills. In addition, our buses will provide air-conditioned rest areas for residents and first responders, offering a safe, cool place for relief from the heat and stress. Mental health support, including counseling sessions and stress management workshops , will be offered to help people cope with the emotional challenges brought on by the disaster.
Technology : With widespread power outages in the affected regions, Discovery Workshop is preparing to provide temporary electrical distribution
to restore power to critical areas while utility companies work to reconnect the permanent network. Our Telecom Bus, equipped with onboard phone charging stations and Starlink Wi-Fi connections , will ensure essential communication, enabling residents to stay connected with loved ones and emergency teams to coordinate their efforts effectively.
Logistics and Merchandising: Our convoy will also serve as a merchandising storage area for a variety of non-perishable supplies, tools, and vehicles needed for the recovery effort. These supplies will include essentials such as water, food, tools for rebuilding, and other equipment required by both residents and relief workers. This mobile storage will enable efficient distribution of critical supplies to those in need, supporting the recovery and rebuilding efforts.
Education and Training: In addition to CPR training, Discovery Workshop will offer skills training essential for recovery, including
basic financial literacy ,gardening for sustainable food production , and basic construction skills to help residents rebuild their homes and communities. Workshops on safe water management and energy conservation
will provide practical knowledge to help communities become more resilient as they recover.
Our teams are actively organizing resources, volunteers, and equipment to ensure a swift and effective deployment. With a focus on wellness, technology, logistics, and practical training, Discovery Workshop is ready to support Florida’s recovery from Hurricane Helen, providing essential services, supplies, and empowerment for communities to rebuild and thrive.
